Our Water Well Construction programme delivers safe, sustainable water sources and supports communities with training on maintenance, hygiene promotion and local management structures to ensure long‑term functionality.

Who benefits

Rural villages and peri‑urban settlements lacking reliable access to potable water, schools, clinics and households where fetching water imposes a heavy burden—particularly on women and children. Improved water access reduces waterborne disease and frees time for education and livelihoods.

What the programme includes

• Site assessment and community consultation to select appropriate technology (borehole, shallow well, protected spring).
• Drilling or well construction, installation of pumps or handpumps and sanitary protection works.
• Training for local water committees on operation, maintenance and simple repairs.
• Hygiene promotion and linkage to sanitation activities to maximise health benefits.

How the programme works

1. Initial assessment with community leaders to determine need, location and water table feasibility.
2. Technical survey and procurement of materials and contractors where required.
3. Construction or drilling, followed by testing and commissioning of the water point.
4. Establishment of a local management plan, training and handover with monitoring visits.
